I think this is my favorite anime this season(it's currently on the 9th episode).
It resembles Honey and Clover in a lot of ways, like soft lighting(washed-out colors), background settings(college), the comedy style, and spinning objects in the ending sequence, maybe even the music. The character design is actually a little like Sumomomo Momomo, where you get a guy who's intelligent/attractive/serious, then you get a heroine who is madly in love with the guy, who's not too intelligent. The character art style is actually not of my taste, but the comedy is great, you gotta love how Nodame says "GABU!" everytime.
The story is about a piano student from a music school who wants to become a conductor, and with a little romance mixed in the process. The guy also suffers from aviatophobia, which happens to be his biggest obstacle in becoming a successful musician.
One thing to note is that, the voice actress(Ayako Kawasumi) of Noda Megumi, the heroine, is the voice actress of Atoli from .hack//G.U., who also did the voice of Saber from Fate/Stay Night. Can you believe that Saber and Atoli were done by the same voice actress? That's quite a shocker for me...
The song is the ending theme. Not of typical Crystal Kay style, but I really enjoyed it.

Somehow, drawing styles just go in circles...
Look at some of the drawing styles from around 2000, for example. It's like Doom 3: some of the animes such as Love Hina have suprisingly good detail despite the age of the graphics engine/art technology. Six years later you have Sumomomo Momomo, which looks less refined despite being recently released. But there are also animes such as The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya which don't look old either. So think about these things too much and you'll end up like this.

“Ha! Why should we let others dictate our lives? They have no base for their authority but their own words. You may think you are walking along the path given to you when you obey them, but are you really working within the system, or are you letting the system work you?”

Oops, spelling mistake there, Cantabile, not Cantebile :]Someone actually recommended this to me as well, need to check it out.
@TWRICEROCKET: It's a financial problem. You see, Kyoto Animation even waited to continue Suzumiya Haruhi because of their work with Kanon. They could've done it, but it would mean a big loss in animation quality.
Either you have many key animators and inbetweeners and so each animator has relative much time for a frame, or you cut down on personal and the drawings become scribbles.
If you invest absolutely no money or have no time, you get things like Musashi Gundou and other yashigani.
it's a financial problem indeed. but then again, apart from quality, there is the "style" in general(placement of eyes, facial expressions, etc), I think that's just a matter of personal taste, for example, I prefer horizontal eyes over vertical eyes. ^^;
@Narfmaster
oops. it's fixed. :D
@Tadashi: Good insight. You're not an econ major are you? After taking an intro to econ class, everything has to do with profit now. :D

When I first heard of this anime from an anime blog, I found that the anime was apapted from a manga and there was a tv drama of it too. I thought I would go ahead and spoil myself so I download the tv drama to see how it was. I was glad I watch it. It was AWESOME. I recome you all who watch this anime to try the drama too. I don't usually watch tv drama. Note: the tv drama had already end at ep 11. You can get them from this site: http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/torrents.php?search=Nodame&type=&sub=View...
Beta subs can be found from this site: http://www.s-projects.org (Note: The later ep was in beta when i watch some time back, it may have come out of beta now)
p.s if it against the rule to link to other site pls remove the link. thnx
@TWRICEROCKET: No, I haven't taken any economy classes, but I'd like to get into the game industry, so knowing this can always come in handy.
Actually, I'm just looking for a job. As soon as my japanese skills are good enough, I'll attack Japan with a wave of applications. In the worst case, I could always translate them some cool sounding german words ;D
after reading the replies in this topic i tried out nodame cantabile and i must say i was sold, i watched all 8 subbed episodes in a row, you cant trust those ANIDB entries anymore
The audio doesn't seem to be downloading properly. I'm just getting an unknown file type called "01", although it is about 10mb.
@Sadiki: ^ Correction to the above.. it's downloading a working mp3 file, although it doesn't detect it as such, and therefore I can't add it to any playlists, or even set a default program to open it. Can you set it up so I can download a normal mp3 version of this?
@Sadiki: just rename it with .mp3 file extension.
Yeah, duh. I should have known better. Thanks Lu.
I really liked seeing Ayako Kawasumi as the voice actress for Atoli in hack/gu. Thats the Japanese voice. She didn't do the english voices on either game or engish dubbed tv eps. I know it can really get confusing at times keeping up with 'my heros voice actor/ress". you know wait 'I mean on the japanese game not that one.."
I really miss it. Please make more?
I'm not fond of how they do not show movement during music sequences it would much more entertaining. I have found myself yelling at the computer during some of the sequences paticulary when Chiaki is conducting.
please, please, please, please, i implore you, make more sumomomo subs!!!
I suppose the premise of madly in love is similar.. but I'll take nodame over annoying momoko any day of the week.
It's been like 2 to 3 weeks now, and no sumomomo. Oh Lu, have you abandoned us???
I just watched through ep. 10 and I can not believe that the voice actress for Nodame is the same as Saber. Now there is some real tallent! I found that I am really enjoying this series.
and burned through all 11 eps that have been subbed, the intro and outro are now both firmly stuck in my head, and the series is very interesting. music based series ftw!.
Ahahaha, having heard Ayako Kawasumi in a variety of roles, I enjoy her work here. In fact, I enjoy figuring out every damn voice actor I already know by their voice, (which involves a lot of pausing and looking things up on ANN X3;. Hear a voice I know, go OH OH I SHOULD KNOW THIS! .. and get to confirming what my ears know on ANN XD;) Currently dling the 16 gigs worth of the drama and uguu.. mebbe it'll be done in 3 days >_>;;;...
~b4k4 out.
~~~ aru hareta hi no koto, mahou ijou no yukai ga ~~~ I'm sorry t3h b4k4 is lost to the anime music. check back later *bzzt*
