Welcome to NHK! episode 1 - Welcome to the Project!

This is the show that's replacing Suzumiya Haruhi's usual time slot.

I didn't have a high expectation for this anime at the beginning(one of the reasons maybe is because I really liked Suzumiya Haruhi...). When I saw the title, I thought it's gonna be a show about the daily lives of some guy who's working for NHK(Nippon Housou Kyoukai, or the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation, big big broadcasting company), like Ghiblies from Studio Ghibli. It turns out the NHK here actually stands for Nippon Hikikomori Kyokai, it roughly translates to The Social Outcast Association of Japan(imagine otaku, in the extreme sense).

Yep. It's a show about otaku(I guess having "otaku" in this site's title alone is a good enough reason not to omit this anime), and the female lead looks really cute, though she too has some weird interests(Suzumiya Haruhi II!?)...

SPOILER WARNING

I wonder how do guys like that always meet up with cute girls by accident in animes, anyways, that's what happened in this episode.

The social outcast, whose name is Sato Tatsuhirou(佐藤達広,) who fears... pretty much everything, and thinks the world is filled with conspiracies, saw a girl holding an umbrella outside his door one day, whose name is Nakahara Misaki(中原岬). Who later claims she has came to save him(BUT WHY DOES THE TITLE SAYS "Welcome to the Project!"!?)...

Nice place, better than mine.Nice place, better than mine.

There was another anime about the life of Otaku's and whatnot called Genshiken from a while back... unfortunately it was canceled with only 13 episodes - I hope this one is just as entertaining as Genshiken and that it LASTS LONGER @_@

LostMK - Proud Otaku ;D

Everything that happens is pretty much unpredictable... and touches on subjects most people might want to stay away from or might not want to present to the public.

I have not watched the anime yet, still waiting for a better fansubber. I hope this show does well, the manga is alot funnier than Haruhi.

Sato was on drugs when he expanded NHK to Nippon Hikkomori Kyokai, so the NHK is refering to the broadcasters....

I think there's going to be a Genshiken 2 soon.

Anyone who likes this should take a look at the manga. It seems the anime is going to be a more serious version of the manga, but toned down in quite a few aspects.

If you do decide to read the manga, keep in mind that it includes nudity (basically, a bit worse than the masturbation fantasy of Misaki[?] in episode one) but it is done in a way that keeps you laughing while keeping the serious aspect as something you don't really take note of at the time but know it's always there.

In the manga, Satou comes across as very screwed up rather than guy a with a couple of problems but this is where most of the humour originates from.

The manga includes a lot of things you may be very averse to but don't let that stop you from reading as it is very entertaining. Examples are how this guy (used to be his junior in school) makes the two of them form a H-Game-developing company and how Satou develops a temporary lolita complex for one of the chapters.

I'm not going to say anymore as I'll probably give something important away but I highly recommend the manga!

@b4k4ni04: hmm... I think it's another anime that didn't cover even half of the story from the manga. Frown
