Anime you dismissed, then loved.

I believe we've all been guilty of this at one point or another. You hear about an anime from someone whose opinion you don't respect or perhaps get a bad impression of it ("It's for girls!" , "It's for boys!" , "It's for children!") ... something like that. You get what I mean.

My biggest one is Fullmetal Alchemist. Even though it was on Adult Swim I still associated it with Cartoon Network and know most people who watch Cartoon Network anime like DBZ or Naruto I was less then thrilled to try it. Well, just recently I finally did after catching an episode idly on Adult Swim and I must say, it's up there as one of the BEST animes I've ever watched. I usually don't watch anime over 28 episodes but this one was full worth it, especially with the movie (I'm kind of glad I waited so I could watch it through with the movie because without the movie it's definitely a dissapointing ending.)

Movie just aired in the US on the 25th of last month, and supposedy comes out on DVD on the 12th. I will be picking that up ASAP.

So, now that I've shared my story, anyone else want to share?

well I did that with FMA to though I did it before it was licensed
A freind recommended it to me and I had heard good things about it before but it seemed like a really mainstream anime, wich i always associated with animes like naruto, bleach, and one piece(don't get me wrong they're not bad animes they're just better mangas), but after much nagging I checked it out and was greatly surprised especially with the depth of the show

I also dismissed Serial Experiments Lain as being too abstract but recently i started watching and it and i'm kinda enjoying it but i can't really pass judgment yet cause I haven't gotten around to finishing it

mai hime i dismissed because all the characters are pretty much female and it falls in to the catagory of for girls but beyond that i enjoyed the series.

everything you see could be a lie..information you learn could be false...to truely live life you need to find out for yourself.........oh and i like anime!!

I'd have to say samurai champloo. At first I hated it becuase of the "rap" stuff they shove in there, but now I think it's awsome! (the Japanese voice-over for Mugen is so weird!)

I will be honest .hack Roots, I was really afraid to watch the anime and I did watch the first episode and completly dismissed the series cause I had a feeling I needed to play the games in order to understand most of it xD

However someone then came to me and like showed me some interesting AMV's and then told me that I didn't need to play the games since it was a prequal so I yayed and began downloading xD  on episode 16 now.

.Hack//SIGN, to be honest. I figured it was just an attempt to make a video game a multi media experience, and thought it would have no merit on it's own. It was probably a lot more insightful into MMO subculture than the games were.

so i herd u liek mudkips?

@Plague Doctor: E's otherwise, was mine. I wasn't worried about it being kiddy, just kind of, well, gay. I mean a lot of homosexual references, I read a manga once, tried to force myself and I couldn't. I'm not a homophob, I hang around them, but I that....thing....yeah.... I just can't do it. Anyway, after watching the intro, with the whole guy with angel wings bit, yeah, thought, annnnhhh no... But I watched the first eps, and I was hooked. Oh yeah, anybody seen sora?
