,hack imformation depository since we had so many questions about some basic common knowledge of the .hack series and we had to keep explaining it might as well explain it here and just link it when the questions arise. ok here we go I'll try to keep this in order but i don't feel like looking up dates so bare with me. She also befriends the AI Macha and begins to talk to the Morganna who claims to be Tsukasa's mother(who died in a car accident in real life) Morganna grants him the power to summon The Guardian, a special near invincibal monster, and the power to go anywhere she wants without having to use the chaos gate. Around this time Bear, B.T., Mimiru, Sora, and Subaru take interest in Tsukasa's plight and sudden acquirecence of powers. Morganna also brings Tsukasa and the sleeping Aura together. Its almost impossible to find the to find the older manga and the novels so you'll have to buy those

a) Most likely he/she isn't going to buy the manga and its hard to find it online
b) I don't consider it canon, mostly because if you were to remove the manga from the whole story would it really affect things?
I also somewhat enjoyed it but I did not find it .hack worthy

Please don't let this become the Star Trek forums. "I don't consider Enterprise canon!" It's half the reason I left the Star Trek forums and eventually Star Trek and I'd hate to hear it about anything .hack. I like all parts of it because it makes one beautiful contiguous story.

From what I understand, the //Legend of the Twilight mangas are canon and the anime is an interpretation. I've seen the anime and I'm currently going through the mangas. There are key differences but all-in-all I think I am enjoying the mangas far more.
Edit: lol what... I edit it to change the font so my posts all match and it moves it down to the bottom? Sad day. This was supposed to be before the previous two posts. No more editting for me.

@Lungkisser: yes.. the manga is cannon... so Zeffie, Aura's doughter is canon... and that evil AI in the LotT anime is not... that's all... i guess...

I read something somewhere (very vague; I fail) about Zeffie being mentioned in either //G.U. or Interim Reports or something. I can't even remember where. Maybe it was wikipedia...
Yup. Search "Zefie" through wikipedia and it talks about it. Would be interesting.

well I updated the depository a bit but then got caught up in some new Deathcab for Cutie CD's I got XD
Btw someones gonna have to write the manga summary cause I never got to read it since the manga section is near the magical studies section at my town's borders and theres always like twelve goth kids in ther

well... i read the .hack//LotT manga's first and last (third) volume... nothing special happens ... and correct me if i'm wrong
spoiler:
We meet Shugo and his sis, they win on a contest organized by Aura, they get the PCs of Kite and BlackRose, the legendary .hackers... they meet with Balmung, who is now an admin and coordinator of funky events, they also meet a girl Mirellie... who is non other then Mistral's doughter (who was born during the old .hack games)... who's using her moms PC
they also meet with Ouka, who has a new class and a new race... since there was an expansion to The World... later on Shougo's character gets attached to Zeffie, an AI, who's suppose to be Aura's doughter... then they get chased by Kamui and the Cobalt/Azure/Blue knights, who are the debuggers of The World... we learn that Kamui once knew the hero of .hack//AI buster, Albiero.
Finally our heros meet with Kazu, BlackRose's brother, who gives them a key to NetSlum, there they meet some vargant AIs (includeing Lycoris, or a copy of Lycoris, who was in AI Buster too)... they also meet Aura in the end, and we'll learn that Shugo once had a character years ago, met Aura when she was half awake, and wished to be a hero, so now Aura made him a hero.. that's all
during the manga we meet a bunch of new charas, and some old guys, as WiseMan, Mistral... that's all...
in the anime we learn that Balmung dated Kamui once, we see Ginkan deleted by Kamui, and there is a vargant AI who's all evil, and gets deleted by Shugo.... but that all does not happen in the manga...

I think everything is pretty much correct.
But right before LOBT we have the games and the manga of .hack//another birth. sorry i don;t have info on another birth as i never read the manga, and i can't find the manga. for what i understand... .hack//another birth is just what happens to blackrose in and out of the game, giving some kind of key informatio that was never revealed in the game, or something like that

.hack//Another Birth is a novel, not a manga, which tells the story of the four PS2 games from her perspective rather than Kite's. Just to clear things up.
I've read the first one. It's not bad. Kinda short. Not as fulfilling as playing the games, obviously.
Well who ever was going on about not canon theres gonna be that sorta crap because of .hack//Dusk.

dot hack dusk is still used by lots of people even if its not it's true name because its short and to the point like all other dot hack titles....legend of the twilight bracelet isn't....
everything you see could be a lie..information you learn could be false...to truely live life you need to find out for yourself.........oh and i like anime!!
@Mousie: People use "Dusk" because it also means "Twilight" ...I think. I've always used Dusk because "Legend of the Twilight Bracelet" and "LotTB" don't sound right, like "SIGN" "ROOTS" and "GU" do.

Actually its just Legend of the Twilight. No bracelet added. so thats LotT. Dusk was a mistranslation by a fansub group.

@Mousie: it is the "Legend of the Twilight Bracelet" though. The official title is ".hack//黄昏の腕輪伝説(.hack//Tasogare no udewa densetsu)"
黄昏(Tasogare) = Twilight(Dusk)
の(no) = of(in reverse)
腕輪(udewa) = Bracelet
伝説(densetsu) = Legend

@Mousie: there is no one-to-one correspondence between words in English and Japanese. it's not a good idea to think there is.
tasogare and yuugure(and 日暮れ(higure), 薄暮(hakubo), 夕闇(yuuyami)) are synonyms.
however, twilight refers to the time of sunset, when you can still see some sunlight, yuugure on the other hand refers to the time from sunset to early evening.
another thing you may wanna consider is, twilight in English may refer to the dimming light during sunrise and sunset, whereas tasogare SPECIFICALLY refers to sunset, and it refers to the event/time of sunset, it's like "noon" or "morning" in English.
with those in mind, "dusk" is actually a better translation for tasogare, but "twilight" definitely sounds better than "dusk".

I understand that. I took Japanese for three years not to mention Guam is full of diverse people.
.hack has always referred to "twilight" of something. The people who wrote .hack for wiki as well as the altimit site believe .hack//Dusk to be a false name. It doesnt really matter to me. I'm just going by what the other die hard .hack fans say.
Personally, I agree with them in saying .hack//Dusk is a false name. Reasoning being its not called .hack//Tasogare. Its one word. If all words were to be inlcuded...saying Legendary Bracelet of Dusk just sounds weird imo.

yep. as far as .hack goes, without a doubt, it's .hack//Twilight Bracelet, not .hack//Dusk Bracelet.

Another Birth is a 4 volume novel series that takes place at the same time as the first four PS2 games (Infection through Quarantine), but from Black Rose's viewpoint. Volume 1 is available at most big bookstore chains. Vol. 2 will come out in October. They're being translated by Tokyo Pop if you want to get the schedules for the remaining books. There are conflicts between Another Birth and the video games, mostly in that Black Rose claims to be the one speaking many of Kite's lines from the games. So far, the only reason for reading these novels is if you didn't play the original games. In short, Black Rose's personal life is "so the drama". Bleh.
