Gundam SEED C.E.73 STARGAZER - stage 1

In case I haven't mentioned this already, I'm a big Gundam fan. Unlike some of the kiddie mecha animes, most Gundam series have compelling story lines with great character development behind the fighting robots, and the complexity of the Gundam universe is just fascinatingly amazing(think of it as the anime counterpart of Star Wars or Star Trek).

The highly anticipated Gundam SEED ONA is finally out! Though I'm a bigger fan of the Universal Century calendar series, but I must say the two Gundam SEED series are very nicely done overall(and the first one was better), so I'm expecting the same from this ONA.

The story takes place at the beginning of Gundam SEED Destiny, when Junius Seven crashed onto earth. It's a side story of Gundam SEED, so it does not involve any of the original characters from Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny.

P.S. The attached song is the TV sized version of the ending theme song, Hoshi no Tobira(星の扉, or "Door of the Stars"), by Negishi Satori(根岸さとり). The single will be released in August.

SPOILER WARNING

With pieces of Junius Seven crashed onto earth, the world was in a state of chaos.

Two members of DSSD(Deep Space Survey and Development Organization), Selene McGrif, a coordinator and a researcher of the "Stargazer project", and Edmond Du Clos, a natural and an ex-tank platoon commander, were caught in the middle of all this.

When everyone thought things couldn't get any worse, a GINN from ZAFT attacked the city, where the launch of the shuttle GSX-401FW Stargazer is also about to take place.

To ensure the succesful launch of the shuttle, Edmond joins up with his ex-subordinate in his tank, to defend the shuttle from the ZAFT mobile suit. In a series of fire exchange, Edmond sacrificed himself and the shuttle was launched without delay.

In the mean while, the Phantom Pain, a non-regular division of the Earth Alliance army, with Strike Noir(GAT-X105E), Blu Duel(GAT-X1022), and Verde Buster(GAT-X103AP) under its arsenal, was sent out to defend a base that is being attacked by ZAFT mobile suits...

Ok, you got me interested. Now, as someone who has never seen a single episode of Gundam SEED, where should I start? Followed the links you gave, and found soo many series. Difficult to choose.

I'm a big GITS fan, love the style and mature characters. Is Gundam seed similar?

@Scalor: watched the episode last week.  Think its way better quality than any previous ce series crap.  Thank goodness that fekuda isnt touching this picture.  Exspecially after he ruined destiny

@Scalor: hmm... I think you should start with the first Gundam SEED series, though this ONA is independent from the two TV series, but you need some of the background information from the TV series, otherwise you'll be really lost, and Gundam SEED Destiny is the sequal of Gundam SEED.

The link gives you a list of the Universal Century series, it's the classic Gundam calendar, and as you have already noticed, it's HUGE. But it doesn't include the Gundam SEED series, they are in the C.E.(Cosmic Era) calendar. You can think of them as parallel universes that all just happen to have big robots called "Gundam".

If you wanna watch the Universal Century calendar series, you can watch them in chronological order, or production order, but I have to warn you, the first Gundam series was produced in the 70s, so expect it to be something from the 70s(the fashion sense and the animation quality)...

Relative to GITS, the Gundam SEED series are definitely aimed at younger audiences, as it doesn't have as much sensitive material(like sexuality and drugs), and the lead characters are teenagers.

@CruelAngel: hmm... before .hack//roots is over, I don't think I'll be subbing anything else, cuz it sucks up a lot of time from me.

if a hardsub is already available, you can do a softsub yourself, since there's no translation involved :D

hardsub - durining the encoding process the subtitles were made part of the video so they're there forever,  though i've heard of programs to remove hardsubs but I don't know how well it works.

softsub - the subtitles can be turned on and off at the whim of the watcher, like on dvds
